Remember the fireflies?

A better place to grow.

We are building planned communities in Kerala where city life and nature belong together: within easy reach of everything, surrounded by trees, open space and room for the kids to run.

Closer to the city. Closer to nature.

Our story

Power cuts on the verandah. Grandparents telling stories. Tiny lights blinking across the paddy fields.

In Malayalam we call them മിന്നാമിനുങ്ങ്, minnaminungu. Most children in our cities have never seen one.

Somewhere along the way, as our cities grew, we began to trade nature for convenience. Open spaces gave way to buildings. Water bodies became harder to find. The simple joys of being outdoors became something families had to travel for.

But what if we did not have to choose? What if home could be close to everything a city offers, yet surrounded by the things that make life fulfilling?

That is the idea behind Boonwoods. Born in Kerala, where nature has always been part of the way of life, Boonwoods Developers LLP creates planned residential communities within easy reach of the city, bringing together modern comforts, useful amenities, greenery and open space.

For us, nature should be more than a view from a window, and a community should be more than a collection of homes. These should be living parts of everyday life: places where children explore, neighbours connect and people feel they belong.

We are not just creating homes. We are creating a better place for life to grow.

Why it matters

Our cities gave us convenience. Along the way, they took the outdoors.

Urban families today live closer than ever to good schools, hospitals and work. What has quietly become scarce is everyday contact with nature.

What city life gave usWhat it quietly took
Good schools and hospitals nearbyA safe place for children to play outside
Shorter commutes and more choicesTrees, birdsong and a wide open sky
Apartments with every amenityNeighbours we actually know
Screens and indoor entertainmentEvenings outdoors, and the fireflies

For children

Unstructured outdoor play builds confidence, curiosity and the kind of friendships screens can't. It needs space close to home, not a weekend drive away.

For well-being

Time around trees, water and open space is widely linked with lower stress and a calmer mind. A daily walk under trees does more than an occasional holiday.

For community

Neighbours become friends in shared outdoor places: the path, the playground, the bench under the tree. Corridors and lifts rarely do that.

Nature shouldn't be a weekend trip. It should be the walk home.

Experiential living

Nature you live in every day, not a view from the window.

This is the everyday life we plan Boonwoods communities around.

  1. Morning walk

Under trees that were here before the homes were.

  2. School's out

Cycles, muddy knees and a game that runs till the light goes.

  3. Verandah tea

Grandparents, neighbours and the sky turning orange.

  4. Lights low

Warm, soft lighting, a quiet garden and stories before bed.

The convenience of the city. The joy of living close to nature.

Our vision

A world where people and nature grow together.

Our mission

To create better places for families to live, grow and connect with nature.

What we stand for

Five beliefs that shape every community we plan.

  • Nature belongs in everyday life

Greenery, open spaces and water features are planned from the very first sketch, not added later. We keep a site's trees and natural features wherever we can.

  • Modern living should feel effortless

A good home extends beyond its walls: useful amenities, sound infrastructure, easy access to the city and well-run shared spaces.

  • Every generation deserves a better place to grow

Children exploring outdoors. Adults finding room for wellness and family time. Future residents inheriting places planned with care.

  • Communities matter as much as homes

A neighbourhood is shaped by the spaces people share and the friendships that grow there. We design for evening walks and chance conversations.

  • Sustainability shows in decisions

Responsible development shows in how a project is planned, built and maintained. We tell you what we chose and why, plainly.

For every generation

One small light. A different memory for everyone in the family.

Grandparents

Memories of a greener, slower Kerala and evenings spent outdoors.

At BoonwoodsA place that brings back the way of life they valued.

Parents

Their own childhood in the 80s and 90s, and the outdoor childhood they want for their kids.

At BoonwoodsChildren grow up the way they did, with city comforts added.

Children

Wonder, magic, and a friendly firefly called Minnu.

At BoonwoodsA place to explore, play outside and make friends.

Malayalis abroad

A strong pull towards home, and the Kerala they remember.

At BoonwoodsA way to come back to it, for good or for the holidays.

Making the promise real

We will show you the choices behind the story.

Buying a home is one of the biggest decisions a family makes. For every Boonwoods community, ask us these five things and we will answer them with plans and documents.

Our honesty pledge

We only make claims about greenery, amenities, sustainability or travel times when the project's design, approvals or operating plan back them up. If we can't show it, we won't say it.

  • Which trees, landscape features and water bodies are kept

Retained wherever feasible, and marked on the plan you take home.

  • How open spaces and shared amenities are planned

What residents can actually use, where it sits, and how big it is.

  • How water, drainage and landscaping are handled

Including who looks after them over the long term.

  • How distances and travel times are measured

Every connectivity claim is checked for each project before we publish it.

  • How the community is cared for after handover

Maintenance of shared spaces is part of the plan from the start.

Living up to the firefly

A place good for fireflies is a place good for families.

Fireflies only return where there is native planting, clean water and darker green pockets. Where a site allows, this is how we plan our landscapes.

Native trees and shrubs

Native trees, shrubs and ground cover instead of only lawns and ornamental plants.

Warm, low-glare lighting

Darker green pockets with soft, warm lights that point down, not up into the sky.

Rain gardens and pond edges

Moist, natural areas such as rain gardens and bioswales that slow water down and keep it on site.

Minimal pesticides

Common areas cared for with as little chemical treatment as possible.

We will only say you'll see fireflies at a Boonwoods community when its landscape design genuinely supports them.

Meet Minnu

The firefly who lights the way home. മിന്നു

Minnu is short for minnaminungu, a pet name you will hear in many Kerala homes. Curious, warm and playful, Minnu loves open spaces, tall trees and evening walks.

Minnu is happiest when children are playing outside and grandparents are telling stories on the verandah. In Boonwoods communities, Minnu will greet children along nature trails, in play areas and through Minnu's Nature Club.

  • Minnu's Nature Club

A club for children to explore the outdoors together, run by the community.

  • Gardening days

Little hands, muddy knees, and something growing they can call their own.

  • Nature walks

Evening walks to spot birds, bugs and trees, with Minnu leading the way.

  • Festival get-togethers

Onam pookalams, Vishu mornings and Christmas stars, celebrated with the neighbours.
